Does a small business need a risk assessment?
Yes, every employer. A risk assessment for the life and health of workers must exist in written or electronic form, match the actual jobs and be available to the worker at the workplace (art. 18 of the Croatian Safety at Work Act). With it: training of workers to work safely, inspected work equipment and first aid supplies. Checked by the labour inspection.
- Who must?
- Every employer with workers; for office and simple jobs the employer can make the assessment, for riskier ones an authorised person.
- What to do?
- Make a risk assessment (free for small businesses through OiRA) and keep it in written or electronic form.
- Train the workers to work safely and record it.
- Check the work equipment, first aid and evacuation plan according to the assessment.
- Where to file?
- Nothing is filed; the assessment and records stay with you, shown to the inspector on request.
- Who checks?
- State Inspectorate (labour inspection)
- Fine
-
The Safety at Work Act prescribes fines for an employer without a risk assessment; we are confirming the amounts.
We are confirming the amount in the source before we publish it.
- What if I am already late?
- Through OiRA you make the assessment for an office, a salon or a café in one afternoon.
What gets said wrong online
Wrong: "A risk assessment is only for construction and manufacturing."
Right: Every employer needs one, an office and a salon alike; only the scope differs.
