Do my staff need a health (sanitary) card?

Under the Croatian Act on the Protection of the Population from Infectious Diseases, health surveillance covers people who handle non-prepacked food at work (kitchen, bar, serving; art. 26 point 1) and everyone providing hygienic care to people: hairdressers, beauticians, masseurs, manicure, pedicure, tattooing (art. 26 point 5), regardless of product packaging. An examination before starting work and once a year (art. 28), at the public health institute. Those in retail or production handling only packaged food or cosmetics are not covered. Checked by the sanitary inspection of the State Inspectorate.

Who must?
Hospitality, bakeries, pastry shops, shops with non-prepacked food; hair, beauty and massage salons, manicure, pedicure and tattoo studios for everyone working on the client.
What to do?
  1. List who in the business handles non-prepacked food or works on clients (hair, beauty, massage, nails, tattoos).
  2. Send them for a medical examination at the public health institute before they start; keep the certificates.
  3. Repeat the examinations once a year (art. 28) and keep a record.
Where to file?
The public health institute (examination); certificates are kept on the premises.
Who checks?
State Inspectorate (sanitary inspection)
Fine

We are checking the fine in the source; until then we do not write a number.

What if I am already late?
Book the examinations now; the inspection asks for the certificates on the spot.

What gets said wrong online

Wrong: "Only staff handling non-prepacked cosmetics need the card."

Right: In a salon everyone providing hygienic care (hair, beauty, massage, manicure, pedicure, tattooing) is covered regardless of packaging (art. 26 point 5); reception staff and sales of packaged products are not.
